The Sierra Pacific Synod is one of sixty-five synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). A synod is an administrative and missional geographic region, overseen by a bishop who provides direction to staff, a synod council, and volunteers from its congregations for vision, support, and resources to carry out mission and ministry.

The word synod comes from a Greek word meaning “to travel a common road — to walk together.”  The congregations, the people, and the ministries in our expansive geographical region walk a common road together as a community of nearly 200 congregations in central and northern California and northern Nevada that shares a passion for making positive changes in the world.

The synod coordinates training sessions for stewardship, networking and educational workshops, informational workshops addressing logistical topics for congregational leaders and pastors, and offers ongoing ecclesiastical support through congregational contact and synod assemblies.
